About Us

The sprawling G.D. Binani Post Graduate College had a humble beginning in the year 1969 in the Binani dharmashala at Dhundhi Katra The dream and vision of Seth Goverdhan Das Binani was transformed into reality by his worthy son Shri Ghanshyam Das Binani with the ultimate backing of the learned Smt. Padma Binani, his better half. The philanthropic gesture of the great business family known as the Metal King of India envisaged a higher education institution in a region flanked by the adivasi population in the south, the interior forest population in the east, the largely rural and agrarian population in the west, looking towards the north Varanasi region with awe and admiration which indeed had an ancient seat of learning in the BHU Campus. Seth Goverdhan Das ji wanted to establish a professional College. His son and daughter-in-law took it upon themselves to transform the dream into a reality after his untimely demise. They sowed the seeds of higher education with a co-education institution in so remote and backward an area, nurtured it into an institution which was the sole one in the region to provide higher education to boys and girls. The guardians were skeptical about sending girls to the outskirts of the town. It was a time when parents or grandparents had a mindset where girls’ education was not on the priority list. G.D. Binani P.G. College provided the much needed encouragement by way of ensuring safety and security for diffident girls and anxious parents. The enthusiasm of the founder and the teachers’ provided the impetus and helped the College to grow by leaps and bounds. To Late Shri Goverdhan Das Binani, an ideal institution focused on the character building of the youth and making him or her self-reliant and confident. With 27 students in Commerce and 35 students in Arts, Goverdhan Das Binani Mahavidyalaya started functioning from 16th of September 1969. The college building was yet under construction,  so the Binani Dharmashala at Dhundhi Katra housed and nursed the newly born College.

It was in the year 1971 that the College began functioning from the premises at Bharuhana Chowk where it stands as a pioneer institution in the field of education.

The College was recognized under 2F and 12B of the UGC act 1956?
